Malaysia Smelting Corporation Berhad (MSC) said Tuesday that its 75 percent subsidiary, PT Koba Tin had planned to purchase 160 pieces buckets worth approximately US$1.3 million from MMC Metal Industries Sdn Bhd (MMCMI).

MSC said Koba Tin will use the manganese steel buckets for its Bemban Dredge located onshore Bangka island, southern of Sumatra.

Bemban Dredge is a 6600 tons bucket ladder dredge fitted with 130 buckets (each 24 cubic feet capacity) and digs to a maximum depth of 150 feet (46meters).

Koba Tin owns two bucket ladder dredges with annual throughput of 7,000,000 cubic meters each.

Koba Tin produced around 18,000 tons of tin last year.

State-owned tin miner PT Timah, which also operates mining concessions and smelting plant in the island, owns 25 percent of Koba Tin.

MMCMI is a wholly-owned subsidiary of MMC Corporation Berhad (MMC), a major shareholder of MSC. (Robert)
