Kobatin to leave local mining site February 2002

Tin mining company PT Kobatin will gradually leave its mining site in Desa Lubuk Besar village in Koba district, Bangka Belitung province in February 2002 as the company no longer carry out any mining activities, company general affairs manager Salman Abuchari was quoted as saying by the local Sriwijaya Post daily late last week.

Salman, however, said that the company would not totally abandon the area because it still have land reclamation obligation.

He also said that several building facilities of the company would be handed over to local government.

Kobatin is 75 percent owned by Iluka Resources Ltd. of Australia, and 25 percent by the state-owned tin miner PT Timah Tbk.(*)
