Spokesperson Elan Biantoro told Petromindo.Com on Friday that the unidentified cargo ship hit KE40 production platform causing the platform to tilt by 40 degrees. Production was automatically stopped. Underwater valves also automatically shutdown to prevent leakage, he said, adding that police are still chasing the cargo ship.
The incident has put production stoppage on 1,600 BPD of oil and 13 MMCFD of gas from three production wells, he said. Other production facilities remained intact and working normally, he said. Normally, the block produced 25,000 BOPD.
An ROV is currently approaching the platform to assess the damage and to determine repair plan, he said, adding that evaluation may take 2-3 weeks to complete. (bernard)
