Korea Midland Power Co. (KOMIPO) said it has it has started construction of the Semangka hydro power plant in Lampung Province. This is the second development project in Indonesia, following the Wampu hydroelectric project in 2011.
KOMIPO said in a statement Tuesday the Semangka hydroelectric power plant project will have a construction period of two years and seven months from now and be completed in Sept. 2017. The project includes an electricity sales contract that the Indonesian government will guarantee, and its state-owned electricity company PT LN will purchase the electricity, the company added. KOMIPO expects to turn over approximately 128 billion won (US$118.42 million) by selling electric power for nearly 30 years after the development.
The statement did not disclose the capacity of the power plant project, but previous report in this portal said it will have a capacity of 2x27.7 MW, to be built in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung, by a company called PT Tanggamus Electric Power (TEP), in which KOMIPO has a 60 percent stake, while the remainders are held by POSCO Engineering (20%), PT BS Energy (10%), and PT Nusantara Hydro Alam (10%).
KOMIPO said it believes that the two hydro power projects in Indonesia will become an opportunity for Korean small and medium sized companies to tap into overseas markets. Five small Korean companies, including POSCO Engineering and Haechang Construction Co., participated in the Semangka project.
