Komnas HAM helps KEM develop human right programs

Gold miner Kelian Equatorial Mining (KEM) with the help of national human rights body (Komnas HAM) has held a workshop in Kelian from 6-7 December 2001.

According to press release from KEM, the workshop was attended by 20 participants and was facilitated by Soetandyo Wignjosoebroto, a member of Komnas HAM, and Rudolf Woodrow Matindas, Training Facilitator.

?KEM is committed to conducting its operations in accordance with the Universal Declaration on Human Rights. The purpose of this workshop is to define human rights requirements at KEM and to develop programs to implement these requirements,? said Charlie Lenegan, President Director PT KEM.

KEM operates a large open pit gold mine in Kelian, West Kutai, employing about 1000 permanent employees and 600 contractors. (*)
