Kondor Petroleum SA, one of the country’s oil producers, may not be able to meet its target to produce about 14,000 barrels of crude oil per day this year due to a number of non-technical factors, Investor Daily reported on Thursday.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, the company’s senior public relations and media officer, Darul Hidayat said that the people’s resentment against the company’s operation especially in land clearance for the opening of new wells had seriously hampered exploration activities.

“It is unlikely that we will be able to reach this year’s production target. Such non-technical factors seriously hampered the development of new oil wells,” he said.

Kondor Petroleum operates a number of offshore and onshore oil fields in Lalang, Kurau and Melibur. The company’s offshore fields produce about 2,000 barrels per day.

Darul said that the company also planned to expand into gas exploration and production activities. “Beginning this year we have begun gas exploration activities in the company’s concession area,” he added. (*)
