Local oil firm Kondur Petroleum had spudded on May 7 the L-2 well in the Malacca Strait production-sharing contract in Central Sumatra, according to partner Novus Petroleum Limited.

Novus said on Thursday that the L structure is small development prospect located approximately 15 km northwest of Kurau production facilities. The well is designed to test multiple targets in late Oligocene to Miocene clastic reservoirs. Most of these reservoirs have established production in the fields in the Malacca Strait PSC.

The planned total depth of the well is approximately 5,500 feet and drilling operations are expected to take approximately 3 weeks.

Malacca Strait currently produces 12,000 BOPD.

The participants in the Malacca Strait are: Kondur Petroleum SA (operator, 34.36 interest holder), China National Offshore Oil Corporation (39.51 percent) and Novus Petroleum (26.03 percent). (alex)
