South Korean companies have pledged to provide loans worth about US$250 million to state owned electricity Pt Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) to help it finance the development of a mine-mouth power plant in Jambi.

PLN?s President Director Fahmi Mochtar said in Jakarta on Monday that the loan would be provided by Korea Western Power and Circle One. It would be used to build a coal-fired power plant with a capacity of 2 x 100 MW near a coal mine owned by Circle One?s local subsidiary PT Karya Bumi Baratama in Sorolangun, Jambi.

He said that the feasibility study of the power plant would be carried out by PLN?s subsidiary PLN Enjiniring and would be financed by the South Korean government.

Fahmi hoped that the construction of the power plant could be started by the end of 2010 or early 2011 so that the new power plant could begin its commercial operation by the end of 2013. (*)
