Kotabaru administration issues its first mining contract

The Kotabaru district administration in South Kalimantan has recently issued its first mining contract for coal exploitation to PT Hasnur Jaya Utama, reports said Tuesday.

Hasnur mining sites cover an area of more than 100 hectare.

Following the introduction of the new autonomy law, which gives provinces and districts greater autonomy power in managing their economic and social affairs, in early January, the director general of mining does not issue mining contract anymore. The mining contract would be issued by the particular regions.

The Kotabaru administration is expected to issue three other mining contracts soon, officials said. (R. Amoros)
