Saturday, June 29 2002 - 02:31 AM WIB

There are around 50 special coal ports in the Kotabaru regency, South Kalimantan, which have been complained by villagers because vessel activities in the local rivers have affected the people?s daily activities and also caused damage to certain public facilities.

The local Banjarmasin Post daily quoted local transportation department official Jaenal Arifin as saying Friday that the administration had formed a special team to put the illegal ports in order.

He added that the ports must have license from the government or they would have to be shut down.

Many of the illegal ports are located in the Sampanahan, Kelumpang, Batulicin, and Central Kelumpang subdistricts.(*)
