KPC coal output down in Q3

Anglo-Australian mining giant said the coal output of its 50-percent owned subsidiary PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in Sangatta, East Kalimantan dropped to 3.027 million tons for the third quarter of the year, from 3.319 million tons in the second quarter of the year and 4.036 million tons in the same period of last year.

The company said in a consolidated financial statement obtained by Petromindo. Com KPC's combined output for the first nine months of the year decreased to 8.639 million tons, from 10.752 million tons in the same period of last year.

"Production in the third quarter 2000 was affected by an industrial dispute in July and August," the company said.

Coal shipment reached 2.178 million tons in the third quarter of the year, down from 3.287 million tons in the second quarter of the year and 3.717 million tons in the third quarter of last year.

Total shipment in the first three months of the year was 8.027 million tons, as against 10.713 million tons in the corresponding period of last year.

KPC is equally owned by Rio Tinto and energy giant Beyond Petroleum. (Bodega)
