KPC eyes U.S. coal market

Coal giant PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in East Kalimantan is planning to export its coal products to the U.S., according to a company official.
"Although our 15 million ton production target for this could not be achieved, we'll try to enter the U.S. market next year," public relations officer Bambang Susanto was quoted as saying by Astaga.com online.
He said that a contract was expected to be signed next year with a U.S. company, which owned a power plant. He said that the details of the contract was still be discussed.
Around 60-70 percent of KPC's export has been directed toward its traditional market in Japan, Taiwan, and South Korea, with the remainder to Europe. Coal international price currently hovering at US$20-25 per ton. (*)
