KPC must review its warning letters to employees: SBSI

The Indonesian Prosperous Labor Union (SBSI) has called on coal miner PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) to review its warning letters it had given to 66 laborers who were involved in recent protests.

The head of SBSI's KPC unit, Sem Karta, said that KPC must withdraw the warning letters although the workers had ended their strike.

He contended that the protest and strike was legal because workers had taken persuasive approach and reported their plights to the related authorities before they went on the protest and strike.

Sem contended that KPC management's argument that the protest was illegal was an unfounded argument.

"In my opinion, all rules of law have been upheld, and it (the protest) has been in accordance with the procedures," he said. (*)
