KPC on alert over possible shipment blockage

East Kalimantan based coal mining firm PT. Kaltim prima Coal raises alertness in its mining operations on the arrivals of group of people, which are suspected of trying to stop coal shipments of the company.

?We do not know what they wanted yet, but KPC staff and contractors? workers had been notified not to get provoked,? said KPC spokesperson Nunik Maulana over the phone Sunday. When contacted Monday, Nunik did not provide update but said that the crowd are still in Sangatta.

Kaltim Post reported that hundreds of people who are members of several youth groups had arrived in Sangatta, trying to stop KPC coalshipment. The daily said they wanted to stop coal shipment to press settlement of KPC divestment.

The daily also reported that hundreds police had also stay on alert and had put barricades around the port?s entrance . Protesters are reported to have erected tents near the entrance of Tanjung Bara coal port.

Thus far there had been no production or shipment delay. (alex)
