The giant coal mining firm Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) in East Kalimantan is on track to meet its 2001 output target of around 15 million tons, according to company spokesman Bambang Susanto.

He told Petromindo.com that output between January and end of November had reached 14.1 million tons.

He said that despite the relatively heavy rainfall of around 230 mm per day, the company was optimistic that December output would not be seriously affected.

He added that ongoing labor strike at PT Thiess Contractors Indonesia, one of its three coal contractors, would not cause any significant effect in KPC output target.

KPC, equally owned by Anglo-American energy giant BP and Anglo-Australian Rio Tinto mining group, operates a vast mining sites in the Sangatta area of East Kalimantan.(Godang)
