East Kalimantan coal producer PT. Kaltim prima Coal (KPC) on Monday recorded third quarter production of 3.42 million tons, lower than previous quarter?s production of 4.67 million.

The company?s spokesperson Nunik Maharani Maulana told Petromindo.Com on Monday that the decrease was mainly due to three-week production stoppage in September when thousands of workers went on strike to push for ex-gratia payment.

KPC?s January-September production was 12.25 million tons. Nunik said in the fourth quarter KPC was targeting to produce 4.4 million tons of coal.

Earlier, KPC president Noke Kiroyan said KPC would not be able to meet 2003 production target of 18 million tons. (godang)
