KPC reports Q1 production

East Kalimantan coal miner PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) produced 7.247 million tones of coal in the first quarter of 2006, a company official said. External Relations Manager Husein Akma said the production was below target, but he did not disclose further detail.
He said that the company is setting production target of 8.75 million tons in the second quarter.
KPC targets production of 36 million tones this year with its new Bengalon mine expected to contribute 6 million tones this year.
Husein said Bengalon port, which will have loading capacity of 2,000 tones per hour, would be ready to operate soon.
KPC is a unit of JSX-listed coal-mining house PT.Bumi Resources. Bumi is in the process to sell KPC along with its South Kalimantan coal subsidiary PT.Arutmin Indonesia to a consortium in which Japanese tradinghouse Marubeni Corp is a member. (godang)
