The ministry of transportation has asked Taiwan-flagged ship MV Jia Ho currently hired by coal mining company PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) to use Indonesian flag if it wants to continue its operation in Indonesia, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.
Director General for Sea Transportation Hastjarja Harijogi said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the license of the Taiwanese ship to handle KPC's coal shipment to local buyers would expire in April.
"The permit will not be extended. And if the ship will continue its operation in the domestic routes, it should use Indonesian flags," he said.
According to the association of Indonesian shipowners(INSA), the operation of foreign ships in the domestic routes is against the presidential decree No: 5/2005, which prohibits foreign ships to carry out inter-island shipments within the country. (*)
