KPC says some workers begin to work

East Kalimantan coal miner PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) said on Thursday that after a two-week strike which halted production activities, some workers have started to go back to work.

KPC spokesperson Nunik Malulana told Petromindo.Com that the number of workers who are going back to work are still ?small?, and production activities are still halted.

Nunik said that local manpower agency would again hold tripartite negotiation on September 16, after the first meeting initiated by the agency failed.

Thousands of workers went on strike in late August, demanding Rio Tinto and BP Plc, which will soon sell their 100 percent stake at KPC to JSX-listed Bumi Resources, give the workers some percentage of the sale proceeds.

The strike forced KPC to declare a force majeur. (godang)
