East Kalimantan-based coalminer PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) has set a target to produce 26 million tons of coal this year, an official of PT Bumi Resources, which controls the company, said Wednesday.
"The government however has yet to approve the production target," Bumi?s finance director Edi Sobari told reporters.
KPC only managed to produce 16.2 million tons of coal in 2003, lower than production target of 18 million tons.
KPC spokesperson earlier said that KPC?s failure to meet the production target was mainly due to a three-week production stoppage in September, when thousands of workers went on strike to push for ex-gratia payment.
KPC operates a huge coalmine in East Kutai?s Sangatta district. (godang)
