East Kalimantan coal miner firm PT. Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) plans to boost 2006 coal production to 36 million tones, up from 28.5 million tones last year, a company official said.
KPC?s General Manager External Affair Harry Miarsono told Petromindo.Com on Thursday that the increase in production would be mainly contributed by Bengalon mine, which was targeted to produce 6 million tones this year from 800,000 tones last year.
Reports in other media, however, said that the government is asking KPC to decrease this year?s production target to 32 million tones.
Another KPC official R. Utoro said that KPC is targeting to produce 60 million tones within the next five years.
KPC, one of Indonesia?s top coal miner, is a subsidiary of JSX-listed giant miner PT. Bumi Resources. KPC sells its coal to Asia, Europe and America. (godang)
