Coal miner PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) is set to supply coal to the Sangatta coal gasification power plant in East Kalimantan.

KPC and PT Kutai Mitra Energi Baru (KMEB), the developer of the power plant project, have signed the coal sales and purchase agreement last week, according to the local East Kutai Regency administration as seen on its website Monday.

KMEB President Director Hamzah Dahlan said that the agreement is crucial for the company to resume the power plant project as it forms part of the requirement set by BPK Kaltim bank to finance the project.

The 10 MW coal gasification power plant is expected to be completed in the first quarter of next year. KPC hopes to be able to start supplying the coal in March of next year at a monthly volume of 4,382 tons until November, and from there to increase the supply volume to 6,573 tons until November 2018.
