East Kalimantan-based coalminer PT Kaltim Prima Coal (KPC) will join state electricity company PT PLN and East Kutai regency administration to build a 2x6 megawatt minemouth power plant using low quality coal as its source of energy, local daily Kaltim Post reported Friday.
The power plant will be built this year near KPC?s coal mining site in Sanggata, East Kutai, the paper quoted as saying East Kutai regent Awang Faroek Ishak.
The project was to provide more electricity for consumers from Sangatta, the capital of East Kutai regency, and others from the surrounding areas. Moreover, the power plant would supply electricity to Bukit Pelangi outside of Sangatta where a compound of government and business office buildings was being developed, Awang said.
Currently, PLN?s power supply is not enough for Sangatta consumers. (*)
