The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) aims to take action against military generals backing bad mining companies in the country, Investor Daily reported on Wednesday.
The paper quoted Head of KPK Abraham Samad as saying that tough action will be taken against the generals in accordance with recent agreement with the Indonesian Military Chief.
He said that the backing of generals both active and retired has been seen as one of the reasons for widespread tax and royalty delinquency in the country?s mining sector.
He pointed out that about half of mining companies in the country do not have the necessary tax identification number (NPWP), which means that the companies have not been paying taxes and mining royalty to the government. (*)
