Krakatau Posco plans to expand capacity

Steel maker PT Krakatau Posco, a joint venture between South Korea?s Posco Group and IDX-listed steel company PT Krakatau Steel Tbk, plans to boost production capacity of its plant in Cilegon, Banten, to 10 million tons per year from the current 3 million tons per year, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Thursday.

The paper quoted I Gusti Putu Suryawirawan, Director General for Metal Industry, Machine, Transportation Equipment and Electronics at the Ministry of Industry, as saying that the expansion program will be realized within the next several years as part of the company?s vision.

He said that the company is currently setting up a team to realize the expansion plan including by bringing in personnel from South Korea as advisers.

He said that Krakatau Posco aims to produce various steel products required at home including for construction, automotive, shipping, transportation equipment, and others. (*)
