PT Krakatau Daya Listrik (KDL), a subsidiary of IDX-listed sate owned steel manufacturer PT Krakatau Steel (Tbk), projects its 120 MW combined cycle power plant (PLTGU) will run at full capacity by the end of this year.

Indra Pinem, KDL?s Planning & Commerce Director, told Petromindo.com recently that the power plant which started up in early 2015 now runs at 80 to 100 MW capacity.

?We haven?t yet operated it at full capacity as demand for power in Cilegon industrial area is slowing down and many manufacturing facilities have been close down. We operates it based on demand,? he said.

However, according to Indra, the manufacturing industry is projected to start growing again at the end of this year. ?We expect that the industry will start growing again at the end of this year and the power demand will pick up. By then, we shall operate our power plant at full capacity,? he said.

Indra explained that aside from the 120 MW PLTGU, the company possessing another power plant of the same type with a capacity of 400 MW which has been left idle since three years ago due to the increase in gas price.

?We plan to convert it into a steam power plant,? he said.
