IDX-listed steel maker PT Krakatau Steel Tbk said that its blast furnace plant in Cilegon, Banten Province, is expected to start operation in 2018.

The company said in a statement on Thursday that construction progress of the blast furnace plant had reached 99.43 percent as per September of this year.

Completion of the blast furnace plant has been delayed several times, with initial completed target at the end of 2016. No reasons were given for the delays.

The company said previously that the blast furnace complex consists of blast furnace plant, sintering plant, coke oven plant, pig iron caster, stockyard and material/hot metal handling to produce 1,200,000 metric tons per year of hot metal and pig iron.

On November 15, 2011, the company signed a construction contract for the blast furnace plant with a consortium of Capital Engineering and Research Incorporation Limited.
