Krakatau starts operation of coke oven plant

IDX-listed steel maker PT Krakatau Steel Tbk has started late in July operation of its coke oven plant, which will pave the way for the operation of its blast furnace facility in Cilegon, Banten Province, within next couple of months.

This was said by Krakatau Steel President Director Mas Wirgantoro Roes Setiyadi as quoted by news portal bisnis.com on Thursday. ?After four years, we finally have started operation the coke oven plant,? he said.

Wirgantoro said that construction progress of the blast furnace had reached 99.37 percent as per end of July, and is expected to start operation in three months after the coke oven plant. The blast furnace will produce 1.2 million tons per year of liquid iron called hot metal, a raw material in steel production.(*)
