IDX-listed steel maker PT Krakatau Steel Tbk will supply required steel products for the development of a 36 km Jakarta-Cikampek II toll road project.

Krakatau President Director Sukandar said in a statement last week that the toll road project, which is targeted to be completed in 21 months, will require 250,000 tons of steel, to be supplied by the company in the first 10 months from the start of 2017.

Elsewhere, Sukandar said that the company has also begun shipment of steel products to state-owned electricity firm PT PLN for the construction of a total 46,000 kms electricity transmission project, which requires a total of 800,000 tons of steel for a four-year period, of which the first 100,000 tons will be required in November 2016-November 2017 period.

?Improvement of international steel price and strong steel demand at home have become momentum for steel producers (for) growth. Krakatau will focus on increasing production capacity and competitiveness as well as increasing production of value added products,? Sukandar said, adding that its new blast furnace plant is expected to start operation in early 2017, and the company also plans to increase production capacity by 1.5 million tons per year in 2019.
