KS unit supplies steel for transmission tower

IDX-listed steel giant PT Krakatau Steel Tbk (KS) said that its subsidiary PT Krakatau Wajatama is supplying angle steel products for the manufacturing of power transmission towers requested by state-owned electricity firm PT PLN to support the development of the 35,000 MW power plant projects.

?We predict the steel demand for transmission projects to reach 798,000 tons over the next four years,? said KS President Director Sukandar in Cilegon, Banten Province, on Wednesday following the shipment of angle steel products to four transmission line tower makers appointed by PLN.

The four transmission tower makers PT Bukaka Teknik Utama, PT Armindo Catur Pratama, PT Karunia Berca Indonesia, and PT Karya Logam.

KS will also later supply angle steel products to 10 other transmission tower makers including PT Citramas Teknikmandiri, PT Dutacipta Pakar Perkasa, PT Danusari Mitra Sejati, PT Twink Indonesia, PT Kurnia Adijaya Mandiri, PT Wika Industri & Konstruksi, PT Kokoh Semesta, PT Bangun Sarana Baja, PT Gunung Steel Construction, and PT Duta Hita Jaya.

Sukandar said that domestic angle steel production capacity currently stands at 940,000 tons per year, of which Krakatau Bataja Tama accounts for 150,000 tons. PT Krakatau Osaka Steel, a joint venture between KS and Osaka Steel, has a production capacity of 500,000 tons per year. (*)
