Coking coal producer PT Kartika Selabumi Mining (KSM) said that the company's coking coal production would ramp up to 120,000 tons per month by the fourth quarter this year as the company would operate a new block in Kutai Kartanegara.

"The company has set aside US$50 million to support the production increase efforts," President Director of KSM, David Cornelius told Petromindo.com.

The company currently produces between 45,000 and 50,000 tons per month with most of the output exported among others to China, Japan and Korea.

David said that the company would operate its new coal mining block in Kutai Kartanegara which is located about 50 kilometers from the existing site.

He said that the company also supplied the coking coal to end users in the country, namely Group Growth Asia, PT Fajar Bhakti Lintas Nusantara and Krakatau Steel.

David expressed optimism that the company could boost its coking coal production to about 9 million tons per year in the future.
