The authority in Kuansing, one of regencies in Riau provice, has rejected to extend the permit given to PT Mirakor Logas to operate gold mining activities in Logas village, Riau Pos reported on Thursday.

Khairihal, the head of the regency's mining office, said on Wednesday that the company's existing gold concession had expired since 1999 but the company still continued its gold mining operation in the area,

He said that if the company would continue its operation in the Logas village or in other areas in the regency, it should apply for a new license or concession.

Governments in regency levels will be authorized to issue permit in all kinds of mining activities when the autonomy law starts effective next year.

At present, the provincial and regency governments are only allowed to issue licenses on sand, granite and small-scale gold mining activities. (*)
