Kutai focuses on tourism as oil, gas resources may deplete in 2014

The Kutai Kartanegara regency administration in East Kalimantan is allocating a greater amount of funds to develop local tourism sector in a bid to anticipate declining revenue from the oil and gas sector in the future, the local Kaltim Post daily reported Saturday.
The paper quoted Regent Syaukani HR as saying that local oil and gas resources was projected to deplete in 2014.
He said that the administration allocated some Rp 243 billion (US$1=Rp 10,400) in fund last year or 25 percent of total budget for the development of the tourism sector including hotel, roads, and the renovation of tourism objects such as the Tenggarong Sultanate object.
Kutai Kartanegara is one of the oil and gas rich area in East Kalimantan.(*)
