Kutai Kertanegara calls mining investors to meet requirements

The Kutai Kertanegara regency administration in East Kalimantan said that prospective mining investors must meet certain requirements to be able to obtain mining license from the regency.

The requirements are employing local people, environmental friendly operation, and able to anticipate and handle complaints from people living near the mining site.

Kutaia Kertanegara Regent Syaukani HR warne investors not to play around with the requirements, adding that any violation of local government ruling would risk severe sanction including the withdrawal of the license.

Syaukani was quoted by the local Kaltim Post daily as saying that with the implementation of the regional autonomy law, the issuance of mining license has become the prerogative of local government.

?With the autonomy law, the central government or the ministry of mineral resources and energy no longer have authority to issue mining license either in the coal sector, gold or other minerals,? he said.

He said that investors interested to invest in the regency?s mining sector did no have to go to Jakarta anymore, but directly go to the regency administration to process the necessary license.

He said that the investors must meet certain requirements to obtain the mining license. (*)
