Haryanto was quoted by the local Kaltim Post daily as saying Thursday that there had already been 26 businessmen so far who had applied for coal mining licenses.
He said that 13 had been granted the license to open mining sites with an average size of 5 hectare.
?The 13 businessmen are making preparations for production process,? he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a press conference held to announce a planned seminar on Dec. 24 on local coal mining potential.
The speakers in the seminar will include the director general of geology and mineral resources Wimpy S. Tjejep, former chairman of the Indonesian Cooperatives Council Sri Edi Swasono, Regent Syaukani HR. and Haryanto himself.
Haryanto said that the Kutai Kertanegara regency has a huge mining potential and it has yet to be exploited optimally.
