Kutai Regent wants diverse recipients of Unocal money

Kutai Regent Syaukani HR welcomed on Thursday plans by oil and gas firm PT Unocal to provide some Rp 8 billion in community development funds this year to help the community living nearby the company's operation.
But Syaukani was quoted by the Kaltim Post daily as saying that it would be better if the funds were not only directed at the local community but also to other poor community in the regency.
"Some 50 percent can be channeled to the Marang sub district near Unocal operational area, while the other half can be disbursed for other poor areas," he said.
Unocal official A. Moedjianto disclosed the company's community development plans this year during a meeting with the local House of Representatives. He said at the time that the company was planning to disburse some Rp 8 billion in community development funds. (*)
