PT Pama Persada Nusantara, which handles coal-mining activities at PT Adaro?s coal concession in Tabalong, South Kalimantan, has fired AM Janatha, the chief of the labor unit in the company. The company also suspended the labor unit?s secretary Aris Malula.
The two men have been accused of inciting other workers to go on strike recently, which has forced the company to halt its mining activities. The disciplinary measure was decided with the presence of the manpower office but the two workers protested the decision.
The strike made by members of the labor unit of the radical labor organization Indonesian
Prosperous Labor Union (SBSI) had also forced PT Adaro, one the country?s major coal producers, to declare a force majeure to its buyers.
Noor Aidi, the regent of Tabalong regency, the home for several coal mining companies, has threatened to expel any labor unions disturbing the activities of companies operating in the regency. (*)
