State owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has begun to procure coal stocks for the newly built coal-fired power plant PLTU Labuan in Padeglang regency, Banten which is expected to begin commercial operation in September this year, Kompas reported Tuesday.
The new power plant?s manager Sapto Adjinugroho said in Labuan Monday that the plant had so far received 22,000 tons of coal from coal producers PT Arutmin Indonesia, PT Titan Mining Energy and PT Kasih Industri.
?We plan to increase the coal stock to 180,000 tons so that the plant will have enough coal stocks for 30 days,? he said, adding that the plant at full capacity would need about 6,000 tons of coal a day.
The Labuan plant -- one of 35 new coal-fired power plants being built by PLN as part of the first stage of 10,000 megawatt power development program ? has two units each with a capacity of 300 megawatt.
The plant construction which began in 2007 has been 86 percent completed. The first unit is expected to begin commercial operation in September, this year, followed by the second unit in December. (*)
