Laid off workers continue their protest

Hundreds of laid off workers of PT Sumber Mitra Jaya (SMJ) continued their protest on Friday demanding the company's president Gunatmi to come to see them and negotiate a better compensation package.

SMJ is the contractor of state coal mining firm PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam. SMJ had said earlier that it had to lay off the employees because its job with the state company had been finished and was not extended.

SMJ official said on Friday that Gunatmit could not meet them because he was on a very tight schedule. (*)
