Lampung coal export from Jan-Jul 2000 worth US$18 million

The value of coal exported from the Tarahan port in Bandar Lampung in the January-July 2000 period has produced a foreign exchange revenue of more than US$18 million.

Head of the office of ministry of trade and industry in Lampung Soegiarto said that the forex revenue was resulted from the export of some 966,758 tons of coal.

He said that in the same period of last year, the amount was only 325,955 tons worth $8.02 million.

He said that coal export in July was mainly shipped to Japan, Spain and Taiwan.

The coal export from Lampung are those produced by state-owned coal company PT Bukit Asam Tanjung Enim in South Sumatera. Only a small portion of the company's coal production is being exported because mostly goes to the Suralaya power plant in West Java. (R. Amoros)
