Lanco to import more coal from Indonesia next year

Indian firm Lanco Group Ltd., is seeking to import up to 6 million tons of coal from Indonesia, an increase by 2 million from 4 million at present, as it is expanding the capacity of its power plant.

The firm has planned to expand its power generation capacity by 1,000 MW each year, from 3,000 MW at present, a company official told Petromindo.com recently.

Actually, the company needs additional 3-4 million tons of coal next year but it will import the remaining 1-2 million tons from other countrires such as Australia, South Africa, the official said.

The firm bought coal from among "Indonesian top ten coal producers", the official said without specifying.

Lanco is seeking coal with calorific value of 4,500 kcal/kg (GAR). ?We talk to everybody (coal miners) in Indonesia. We also welcome mid-scale produces to supply the coal to our power plants,? the official added. (denny)
