Construction of the Upper Cisokan pumped storage hydropower project in West Java has been temporarily suspended following a landslide triggered by heavy rainfall.
State electricity firm PT PLN (Persero) said all work at the site was halted as a precaution after the incident, which occurred between May 1 and May 3 and affected the tailrace tunnel outlet area.
Ferdyan Hijrah Kusuma, a senior official at PLN’s Java Central Development Unit, said the affected zone and surrounding areas at risk of further landslides have been secured while technical teams assess ground stability.

“No work activities were taking place in the affected area at the time, and there were no casualties,” he said.
The company is conducting site sterilization, soil structure mapping, and safety reviews before deciding when construction can resume.
Local disaster management authorities have also deployed teams to the site to coordinate response efforts and assess risks of further landslides, as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in the area.
The Upper Cisokan project, located on the border of West Bandung and Cianjur regencies, is a 1,040 megawatt pumped storage hydropower plant designed to support grid stability. The facility will use two reservoirs at different elevations to store and generate electricity, with four turbine units each rated at 260 megawatts.
