Lanka Coal looks for 1MT of imported coal from Indonesia

Sri Lanka?s state owned firm Lanka Coal (Private) Ltd is hunting for thermal coal from Indonesian miners for its second-stage 2x300 MW Norochcholai coal-fired power plant in the Northwestern province, the company?s official told Petromindo.Com.

The official said that it is looking for around 1 million tonnes of thermal coal for the commissioning of one 300 MW unit in this year and for the other 300 MW unit in next year.

The first phase of the project has generated 300 MW of electricity since 2010.

Lanka Coal had invited bids to supply 2.4 million tonnes of coal for the country's first coal power plant. According to the company the annual requirement of the 300 MW power plant is 800,000 tonnes and the total requirement would be 2.4 million tonnes when it starts generating 900 MW of power in Phase II.
