Lanna 2011 coal production hit by bad weather

Thai firm Lanna Resources likely face production decrease this year from its two Indonesian mines due to heavy rainfall.

The company?s Indonesian production this year is likely to reach 2.5 million tonnes, lower than last year?s production of 2.5 MT, a source with knowledge about the company?s production said.

Lanna operates two mines in East Kalimantan. PT Lanna Harita Indonesia will produce 1.5 million tonnes with the balance would come from other unit PT Singlurus Pratama.

Combined production from both mines had only reached 350,000 tonnes in the first quarter of 2011.

Lanna exports most of coal production to South Korea (50%), Thailand (20%) and also to traders such as Glencore.

The company is also scouting to acquire more Indonesian coal mines. (denny)
