Lanna reports to parliament over uncooperative Samarinda Mayor

Friday, May 26 2000 - 05:00 AM WIB

President of coal mining company PT Lanna Harita Indonesia Gunawan Harianto complained to the local Samarinda House of Representatives in East Kalimantan over his problem with Samarinda Mayor Lukman Said.

Gunawan said that Lukman declined to issue a coal-mining license for his company although he had already fulfilled all the requirements.

Gunawan also said that the director general of mining Surna T. Djajadiningrat had sent a letter to the Mayor asking the same problem.

He said that the mayoralty had earlier asked Lanna to make a presentation about the company's mining plans.

But he said that when Lanna agreed to this demand, the mayoralty declined to provide the opportunity to make the presentation.

Asked by legislators whether Lukman was asking for bribery, Gunawan said: "He's really weird. He never mention about money."(*)
