Lanna to double production capacity

Thai miner Lanna Resources pcl is planning to ramp up production capacity from its two mines in Indonesia in 2015 to 9.8 million tons per annum (mtpa) from 5.5 mtpa currently.

The company runs two producing mines in East Kalimantan. The first mine, PT Lanna Harita Indonesia (LHI), currently has production capacity of 3 million tons which will be ramped up to 3.8 million tons in 2015.

Lanna owns 55 percent of LHI, a CCoW holder with JORC-compliant proved and probable reserves of 70 millon tons.

The company also plans to increase production capacity of its second mine PT Singlurus Pratama to 6 mtpa in 2015 from 2.5 mtpa currently, the company said on its website.

According to existing data, Singlurus has 25 million tons of mineable coal reserves. Lanna has assigned a consultant to assess all of the existing coal reserves within the concession according to JORC code with completion seen this year. Lanna owns 65 percent of Singlurus.

The company did not provide detail of the expansion plan.

Both of the mines are located in Samarinda area.

Lanna also runs a coal distribution business in Thailand, importing coal from its mines and other Indonesian coal suppliers.
