The House of Representatives will let the government to complete the revision of Law No 4/2009 on mineral and coal amid fears that the House may not be able to complete the revision which it had initiated as targeted this year, Kontan reported on Monday.

The paper quoted Syaikhul Islam, Head of the House Working Committee for the revision of the mining law, as saying that the House Commission VII on mining and energy will seek for approval from the House?s Legislation Body to transfer the revision of the mining law to the government via the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.

Syaikhul, however, is quick to say that both the House and the government are committed to maintain the current export ban policy on mineral ores in the proposed new mining law.

He added that the plan to hand over the revision of the mining law to the government is also made because the House wants to focus on completing the revision of the Oil and Gas Law, which had also been initiated by the House. The revision of the two laws were supposed to be completed in 2016. The House has set this year as new deadline for completing the revision of the two laws.

Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Spokesman Sujatmiko declined to provide comments. (*)
