Layoff victim criticize Freeport

Over 200 indigenous people are currently jobless in Timika, Irian Jaya, after being fired by gold mining giant PT Freeport Indonesia, and another company called Kuala Pelabuhan Kencana, the local Cendrawasih Post said Saturday.

The paper quoted ex-Freeport employee Timutius Kambu as saying that they had been treated unfairly by Freeport. He said that the company?s decision to fire them would only create new social problem. The paper did not elaborate.(*)
