Leakage in Newmont's tailing pipeline being investigated

A leakage in one of two pipelines used by PT Newmont Nusa Tenggara (NNT) in West Nusa Tengara to dump its tailing to is being investigated, a senior official at the ministry of energy and mineral resources has said.

Witoro, the head of the technical division at the directorate general of mineral and coal, told Petromindo on Thursday that the leakage which occurred on Sept. 14 had caused no serious impact on the environment.

"The leakage had halted the pipe's operation for two hours. The company has used the other pipeline to resume the tailing dumping operation," he added.

Newmont's spokesman Kasan Mulyono confirmed the incident but said that the leakage did not affect production activities. (godang)
