Legislator accuses Adaro of backing demonstrators

Local legislator Murhan accused coal mining firm PT Adaro Indonesia of backing the recent massive demonstration protesting the plans to include Adaro's community development fund into the Banjarmasin administration budget.

Murhan pointed out that among of the demonstrators were people who had been working closely with Adaro including the head of the local Gakuba cooperatives unit.

Thousands of people from several villages which were supposed to receive Adaro's community development funding program staged a demonstration recently at the headquarters of the local parliament. The people wanted the fund to be injected directly to them not through the government budget.

Adaro rejection allegations that it was behind the demonstration. (*)
